![]() This Catholic shrine on a hill above Ephesus in Turkey is regarded as a possible site for the Assumption of Mary. It is here that she is said to have spent her last days after she followed the apostle John. Discovered in the late 19th century by French missionaries, the site grew enormously in popularity in the 1950s. Large numbers of Muslims spontaneously started to pray in Mary’s house.
This documentary has been made for the exhibition Lieux saints partagés at the Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (Mucem) in Marseille, april-august 2015.
